The Heart-Warming Story Of One Winner

We'd love to share with you this heart-warming story from one Your School Lottery winner, Mrs R from Barnburgh near Doncaster.

"I have just won £30 on Your School Lottery and would like to share my story. 25 years ago (when I was 10) I questioned Father Christmas, like most children of that age, I became sceptical. My mum assured me that the magic of Christmas was real. When I saw Santa at school, the local pub, the local market, I realised that I was the luckiest girl in the world as I actually knew Santa, he was my Grandpa! Everywhere we went over Christmas, he was there.

Every year he would bring joy to local children but not just at Christmas, he also judged the Halloween fancy dress competitions, Summer Fair and visited Barnburgh Primary School to give talks about his experience in the war. He was passionate about his garden too and often gave advice on how to make a garden grow. 

He sadly passed away in 2017 aged 92 but his memory lives on. He generously donated money to Barnburgh School, and in his honour ‘Walt’s Wood’ was born - an outside learning environment for the local children. Learning how to plant and maintain a beautiful garden was so important to my grandpa, his legacy lives on as the children of Barnburgh Primary School learn his lessons. Money continues to be raised to build and support this wonderful outside classroom. My lottery win will also go towards it."

Barnburgh Primary School lottery was established in July by Friends of Banburgh School. They are now selling over 100 tickets a week and are on track to raise over £2000 a year from their lottery. Support them here:
